Spelling and grammatical errors are a quick way to have your CV torn up and thrown in the bin.
But now it's been proven employers loath certain phrases like 'team player' and 'enthusiastic'.
A study by New College of the Humanities also found bosses don't like emojis on CVs – which is pretty obviously really, I mean, who does that!?
What NOT to say on your CV
- I'm a hard worker
- I work well under pressure
- I can work independently
- I'm a team player
- I am a problem solver
- Good communicator
- I'm proactive
- I am a good listener
- I'm enthusiastic
- Excellent written communication skills
But if you're thinking about playing it casual – don't. Signing off an email with 'cheers' will enrage more than half of recruiters.
According to expert Jane Heifetz, your CV is all about the 20-30 word introductory summary.
Here's her own example: 'Pharmaceutical marketing executive with 20 years of experience creating commercial infrastructures, growing brands, and optimising product value throughout launch, re-launch, and sunset life cycles across all customer segments—payers, physicians, and patients. Lead global marketing and commercial operations teams with P&Ls up to $2B.'
