Facebook Crime: Police nab NYSC member others

A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for robbing university students.

Four others were also arrested for luring people with the use of Facebook and kidnapping them.

While speaking to Southern City News, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ali Okechukwu said the arrests were only made possible through the help of the public.

He said the NYSC member on March 22, conspired with another suspect and broke into the lodge of the Igwe’s lodge at Abagana and robbed students of a high institution in the area of their handsets, laptops and cash sum of N92,000.

Speaking on the arrest of the others, he said, “On March 6, at about 9pm, four kidnappers, who hailed from Obosi in the Idemili Local Government Area, lured a young lady out of Onitsha Sports Club, via Facebook link, to Oguta Road in Onitsha, where she was kidnapped and taken to an uncompleted building.

“The victim was also kept for days until the ransom of N500,000 was paid. The victim was stripped naked and a video recorded after robbing her of a Samsung Galaxy phone, a blue tab and a wristwatch valued at N90,000.”

The Police spokesperson said the suspects confessed to the crimes, adding that the police recovered a locally-made shotgun with live cartridges and an axe.
